When first looking at the Lilla Rose U-pins it can sometimes be hard to understand how they work, but once you use them I am confident you will LOVE these hair accessories.
Let's start by answering the basic question of what a U-pin is. As the name indicates, they are hairpins that are 'U' shaped. What the name does not tell you though is just how useful these pins can be.
When I first purchased the U-pins I chose one of the sets. These come as a set of 2 small u-pins with a centerpiece decoration on the end of the 'U' shape. The first time I used it to hold my bun I knew these would be some of my favorite accessories. They are so quick and easy to put in and the hold is phenomenal. I have a lot of fine, slippery hair and while I can put my hair up into a bun using elastics it is not that secure and often needs me to add bobby pins to secure it. The U-pins hold my hair securely with no additional pins needed. I can even just wear one with good hold, though I do prefer the security of wearing both with my heavy hair.
Some of the sets offer a medium length which is helpful if you have thinner hair as there is less pin length so the tips are not as likely to show. However, if you do have thicker hair this length may not be as effective at holding all of your hair but will work well in half up styles.
Another one of my favorites, and one that I grab quite often is the large Lilla Rose U-pin. In fact, I have one of these in my purse at all times as it has become my 'emergency' hair accessory for those times when you find yourself in windier-than-expected environments.
The large U-pin comes in different shapes and designs. Some have geometric shapes on top and others are simply rounded or squared at the top. They are 5 inches in length and have a choice of 4 finishes including nickel, brass, black nickel, and rose gold.
A newer addition to the U-pin lineup is the Swerve U-pin. This pin has a deeper curve to it and sits very nicely along the scalp while securely holding the hair. It is possible with the Swerve to get a comfortable fit while hiding the pin within the hair. This is great for those who like a more understated look but want the secure hold that a U-pin offers.
The Lilla Rose Lux U-pins are similar to the U-pin sets but they have no decorations on them. They are curved so as to sit comfortably in your hair and will hold the hair very securely. These are a great choice for anyone who is looking for a basic way to secure their hair without adding any flashy designs.
Speaking of flashy designs, the new U-pin/hair stick combos offer a way to add a beautiful statement to your hairstyle. They have 2 hair sticks that connect with a decorative metal circular top to give it the 'U' shape. You can choose the finish of the metal decoration at the end and the color of the hair sticks which allows you to customize it to your preference.
It's not easy to put into words the motion that is needed to use U-pins, but once you have it down it is very quick and easy. So, in order to explain it best here is a video that describes and then demonstrates how to use the different U-pins:
