Have you ever seen someone put their hair up using just a pencil and wonder how in the world they accomplished that? Turns out that pencils are just simple hair sticks, and they aren't as hard to use as you may think.

When I placed my first Lilla Rose order there was a customer special for a free hair stick with any order over a certain amount.

I had never used a hair stick and really didn't think I would be able to figure it out, so I had my daughter pick out which hair stick to add figuring that I would just end up giving it to her.

Well, the surprise was on me. When my order arrived I decided to give the hair stick a try and instantly realized it was AMAZING!

Needless to say, I did not give the hair stick to my daughter and it has now become one of my most used hair accessories.

Why I love hair sticks

I have found that hair sticks are an easy, quick way to secure my hair, and if you know anything about me then you know that I am always looking for easy and fast ways to improve my routines. They are also extremely versatile and can be used in thick hair, thin hair, full buns, twists, half-up styles, etc.

Prior to ordering from Lilla Rose, I had not seen hair sticks in any stores to even be curious about them. The only hair sticks I had seen being used was the occasional times I would see someone using a pencil. Now a pencil is great in a pinch, but it's not very pretty. On the other hand, Lilla Rose offers some gorgeous and affordable hair sticks!

There are hair sticks for any style preference. Some of them are just plain wooden or metal sticks offering simple and elegant style. Then you have the whimsical sticks with dangling beads and honey bees. Need something a little more decorative? The other reason I love using hair sticks is that they hold my hair far more securely than elastics ever did, and they do not break my hair. It is so great not having the fly-aways on the side of my head that I used to get when using elastics.

How to use Hair Sticks

So now we know there is a lot to like about Lilla Rose hair sticks, but how do they work. Well, like the Lilla Rose U-pins, the hair sticks require that your hair is twisted or wrapped in order to have something to hold on to. The most common way that I use them is to secure a bun, but they can be used for most any twist style.

While it seems complicated to use a hair stick, once you have the technique down you will see that they truly are not hard at all. All you need to do is get your hair into the final twisted position and then grab an edge of the twist with the hair stick, being sure to direct the tip from the inside to the outside of the twist, then touch the hair stick to your scalp, turn it over, and run it under and through the twist.

Some people prefer to add a second stick either for extra security or just because they like the way it looks with 2 sticks. For this reason, Lilla Rose sells their hair sticks as both singles and pairs.
